The Way Ahead for Aboriginal People - mentoring program

Did you know that Aboriginal apprentices and trainees are able to receive mentoring support under the Way Ahead for Aboriginal People program?

Way Ahead mentors

  • provide support to Aboriginal apprentices and trainees and
  • work with employers to help them understand organisational and workplace structure.

These mentors provide a valuable support network to ensure that apprentices and trainees can cope with lifestyle pressures faced by Aboriginal people commencing and remaining in employment.

If you have an Aboriginal apprentice or trainee who is not learning, or settling in to the workplace in any way, contact your local State Training Services Regional Office to arrange a visit from a Way Ahead Mentor.

Other vocational training

State Training Services manages a number of vocational training programs which can be customised to meet the training needs of aboriginal people (jobseekers and existing workers) and employers.

Skill Centres are training centres set up by Aboriginal organisations throughout NSW to provide accredited training to their community on a financially self-sufficient basis.

The Strategic Skills Program (SSP) funds training which is customised to meet the needs of a community, a workplace or a group of individuals.

Contact your local State Training Services centre if you are interest in getting skills training for your Aboriginal staff. An Aboriginal Training Coordinator can assist you to

  • determine the training needs of staff,
  • determine suitable career paths,
  • find a suitable registered training organisation.

The Indigenous Training Strategic is funded by the Strategic Skills Program.
