Travel and Accommodation Assistance
Changes are:

- Simplified easy to ready guidelines
- Statutory Declaration is no longer needed and has been replaced by an applicant Signed Statement
- Approval granted for calendar year of travel for NSW City Rail Area applicants.
What is travel and accommodation assistance?
1. Assistance for accommodation at a rate of $28 per day.
2. A subsidy of 12c per km for travel is paid if
- Your travel is outside the boundaries of the City Rail network
- You need to travel more than 120kms round trip to attend day or block release with your registered training organisation.
The payment is regardless of the type of transport used.
Who is eligible?
Registered apprentices or new entrant trainees in NSW.
Existing worker trainees* are not eligible.
Things you should know
If you live and travel within the boundaries of City Rail you may be eligible for the 12c per km travel assistance if you do not use Government transport because it is unsuitable. You need to lodge an Applicant Signed Statement outlining the circumstance with your first claim.
How to apply?
- Download the Vocational Training Assistance Scheme (VTAS) application form.
- Complete the form, sign it, and also have your RTO sign it.
- If required, complete an applicant Signed Statement and have your employer sign it.
- Lodge the application form together with the Signed Statement (if applicable) with your local State Training Services office.
