Financial assistance for training

Are you looking for help to do some training that will improve your chances of getting a job or getting a better job with your current employer?

The vocational education and training (VET) industry can supply the training you want in NSW and State Training Services is the authority that manages and regulates the VET industry.

Funding of training courses

State Training Services funds training in NSW by paying registered training organisations to run approved courses for full or part qualifications in occupations and skills sets.

Basically the training is 'free' to participants, although most registered training organisations will charge you a registration or administration fee.

State Training Services does not provide financial assistance to learners to attend courses except for eligible apprentices and trainees.

What courses

The funded courses are for specific occupations which are designated as in 'skills shortage', and in some cases, for particular industries or regions.

Training may also target priority areas such as energy efficiency and some disadvantaged groups.

Apprentices and trainees

The formal training component for NSW apprenticeships and traineeships (provided by TAFE or a private registered training organisation) is free.

However, a registration or administration fee is payable, by either your employer or yourself.

Apprentices and trainees may also be eligible for a range of allowances and other financial assistance.
