Industry and Indigenous Skills Centre Program

Description

The Industry and Indigenous Skill Centre Program is a national program which provides grant funding for capital infrastructure and/or equipment to establish vocational education and training (VET) facilities for Industry and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities.

The Industry and Indigenous Skill Centre Program is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) under the Commonwealth Infrastructure Program. NSW supports the program by providing assistance and support to Skills Centre projects located within NSW.

The guidelines and application process for the Program are currently under review by the Commonwealth.


Purpose

The Program enables organisations to establish and operate VET centres which provide training in workforce and cultural skills development.

The program provides Industry and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities the opportunity to respond to workforce skills gaps and training needs not being met by existing providers.

Industry based Skill Centres

The Industry based Skill Centre element is funded to promote flexibility, responsiveness and diversity in the training market through the provision of capital infrastructure grants for investment in training facilities for VET.

The program provides the opportunity for NSW to strategically benefit by enabling prompt response to meet workforce skills gaps and training needs not being met by existing providers.

Target groups for this program include Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), community groups and industry organisations all which are ‘not for profit’.

 

VET Infrastructure for Indigenous People

This program aims to provide capital funding to assist the delivery VET to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through:

  • Providing for improved or additional training facilities which are readily accessible by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people increasing training opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to gain workforce skills that lead to employment
  • promoting direct Aboriginal community and industry involvement in the delivery of VET

Target groups for this program include ‘not for profit’ Aboriginal community or industry organisations, RTOs and independent Aboriginal providers of VET.

 

Application process

Applications for funding under the Skills Centre Program are requested through an expression of interest and tender process. There are no funding releases scheduled at this time.

If you wish to record your organisations interest in the program for possible future funding releases, please email the Skills Centre Team on skillscentres@det.nsw.edu.au with the following details:

  • Legal Organisation Name
  • Contact name and details
  • Training location/s
  • training areas to be offered ie: business, hospitality, etc

An expression of interest form will be emailed to you. You will be required to complete this form prior to lodging a formal application.
