Building Sustainability in VET (formerly Green Skills)
About This Workshop
This workshop is an introductory workshop and has been designed to provide an opportunity for participants to critically reflect on their current practice and for RTOs to build their capability to address and create sustainable practices within their VET context.
This workshop supports the NSW Green Skills Strategy and Energy Efficiency Training Program currently being implemented by the NSW Department of Education and Communities (DEC) and the Office of Environment and Heritage. These initiatives seek to ensure that workplaces have the skills and knowledge to support the transition to a lower carbon world, and are well positioned to take up new opportunities as they emerge.
Aims
To assist participants to critically analyse their role as VET professionals, as well as the role of their RTO, to identify how best to support industry and our learners to work towards a sustainable future.
Target audience
- VET teachers, trainers and assessors responsible for delivery and assessment of sustainability skills in VET
- RTO managers responsible for sustainability implementation within training and assessment programs, as well as sustainability strategy and practice within the RTO’s operations
- VET practitioners responsible for supporting sustainability implementation in VET
Outcomes
By the end of the program participants should be able to:
- explain the importance of sustainable work practices and Education for Sustainability (EfS) principles as they apply to VET practice
- identify key drivers, impacts and barriers to sustainable practice in VET
- describe good practice in sustainability in VET, including rethinking current approaches to learning and assessment by engaging through experience, reflection and critical thinking
- apply industry, learner and trainer-assessor perspectives to the planning and implementation of sustainable practice in VET
- discuss strategies to engage, promote and communicate sustainability practices in VET amongst VET colleagues, RTO management, industry partners and learners
- discuss capabilities and professional development approaches that underpin an effective VET practitioner, committed to sustainable practice in VET
- identify networks, tools and resources to support professional currency and future planning in this area.
