Continuing Apprentices/Trainees Placement Service (CAPS) for Employers

CAPS is a free job matching service to connect out-of-work apprentices/trainees with potential employers.

These apprentices/trainees have already commenced their on and off-the-job training and are now seeking a new employer to complete their apprenticeship or traineeship.

Can I use CAPS to find someone for my business?

Yes, if you have:

  • appropriate work to suit the training needs of an apprentice/trainee, and
  • a workplace in NSW.

CAPS is s free service provided by Training Services NSW for all employers in NSW to register apprenticeship/traineeship job vacancies.

How does CAPS work?

You can register the apprenticeship/traineeship position with CAPS either online or by email: CAPS@det.nsw.edu.au.

After your registration is received, staff from Training Services NSW contact you to confirm details of the vacancy. Please note your information will not be made public.

You can also browse the profiles of out-of-work apprentices/trainees on the Continuing Apprentices/Trainees Register. Note that their personal details are not available from the public register.

Once you identify a suitable apprentice/trainee on the register, you can request their contact details by sending an email or call your local Training Services NSW office on 13 28 11. You will receive their contact details if you have registered a vacant apprenticeship/traineeship position with CAPS.

You contact the selected apprentice/trainee to go through your normal recruitment processes. If you are satisfied with the outcomes, you can proceed to establish a new national Training Contract with the apprentice/trainee.

Is there any financial assistance for my business?

The Commonwealth Government offers a range of financial incentives for eligible employers taking on out-of-work apprentices/trainees and extra incentives for employers in skill shortage areas.

These incentives are in addition to existing financial incentives available to employers of apprentices/trainees. For further information contact an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) or go to the Commonwealth Government's Australian Apprenticeships website.

Financial assistance for apprentices

If you employ an apprentice who was registered with CAPS and they need to relocate to continue their apprenticeship with you, your apprentice may be eligible to receive up to $2500 of financial assistance to cover their relocation and rental expenses.

For eligibility criteria and more information, see Travel Accommodation and Relocation Assistance.
