Craft and Completion Certificates - 2018
Issued: 4 December 2017
With the recent review of the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001, the decision was made to delete provisions under the Act for Craft and Completion Certificates. This relates to the issue of Craft and Completion certificates for apprenticeships and traineeships (A&T) AND trade recognition.
Implementation – A&T
Craft and Completion Certificates will be provided/printed for all requests where:
- The nominal training term was completed on or before 31 December 2017; and
- The request is lodged with Training Services NSW by 31 January 2018.
This policy also applies to requests for a re-print of a Craft or Completion certificate. All requests lodged after 31 January 2018 will be refused. Learners requesting a reprint of a craft or completion certificate after this date may be provided with an “extract of record” in lieu of the certificate.
Advice from employers that a learner has successfully completed a term of training (usually used to create a Craft or Completion certificate) will continue to be captured, recorded against each learner and used to facilitate the issue of a Certificate of Proficiency when RTO qualification completion data is provided.
Implementation – Trade Recognition
Applications received by 31 December 2017 will be considered and may be issued a Craft Certificate or Certificate of Proficiency (COP).
With the abolition of Craft Certificates, applications lodged from 1 January 2018 should address the following new trade recognition eligibility criteria:
- Evidence of past employment and experience in the trade concerned; and
- The completion of training and/or assessment in the relevant Australian qualification, issued by a registered training organisation.
