Fee-free pre-apprenticeships and pre-traineeships

Are you thinking about taking an apprenticeship or traineeship but not sure if it's right for you? Why not enrol in a fee-free pre-apprenticeship or pre-traineeship course and see if it suits?

Under a pre-apprenticeship or pre-traineeship, you’ll undertake an introductory unit allowing you to get a taste of the trade or industry. These introductory courses are fee-free meaning you won’t have to pay anything. If you decide it’s for you, then you are already on your way to studying for your full qualification.

To be eligible for a pre-apprenticeship or pre-traineeship, you just need to:

  • be 15 years old or over
  • have completed year 10 (or its equivalent) and be eligible to leave school under the compulsory school-age NSW Education Act 1990 - Section 21B
  • be living or working in NSW
  • be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen

For more information, check out the fee-free pre-apprenticeship and pre-traineeship fact sheet or contact your local Department of Industry Regional Office on 13 28 11.
