Assistance for people with disabilities

In NSW employers of disabled apprentices and trainees are entitled to the standard range of Commonwealth incentives and NSW State financial assistance.

Employers may also be entitled to the Commonwealth Disabled Australian Apprentice Wage Subsidy (DAAWS).

There are number of other services available to assist the employer and the apprentice or trainee.f

Disabled Australian Apprentice Wage Support

DAAWS is a Commonwealth funded wage subsidy available to employers who take on an eligible disabled apprentice or trainee.

The incentive is up to $104.30 a week for a full-time apprentice, or a pro rata amount for a part-time apprentice.

An apprentice or trainee who becomes disabled during training may attract the wage subsidy.

Your Apprenticeship Network Provider (ANP) can advise you on the eligibility criteria and assist with the paperwork.

Other Assistance

Other Commonwealth funded assistance includes

  • Workplace modification - refund of expenses
  • Tutoring for the formal training component
  • Mentoring in the workplace or training organisation
  • Interpreter services (for the hearing impaired)
