APPRENTICESHIPS

Telecommunications - Digital Reception Technology ICT30215 Certificate III level apprentices may work as operators in the telecommunications industry and may apply a broad range of competencies in a varied work context of installation of a limited range of digital reception equipment for either a customer or an enterprise. Apprentices will require fault-finding skills on a range of digital reception equipment for Subscription TV and Free-to-air TV reception.

Telecommunications - Network Build and Operate ICT30415 Certificate III level apprentice's will use this qualification as a pathway for specialised work across the occupation and technology streams as outlined below, on the National Broadband Network (NBN). This qualification may be undertaken as part of an apprenticeship. It provides individuals with skills and knowledge in a range of specialised NBN broadband industry occupations specifically for the national rollout of the high speed broadband infrastructure.>

Apprentices will need to comply with safe working practices and specialise in one of the following four streams to be able to operate equipment and install systems on customer networks to enable efficient access and interconnection to the NBN broadband services. The specialised areas are:

  • Copper Cable Jointer - apprentices will be able to apply connection and jointing of copper cable, diagnosing and rectifying copper cable system faults, and migration, remediation and augmentation of copper services to maximise benefits of the high speed broadband connection.
  • Technician Fibre - apprentices will be able to diagnose and rectifying fibre system faults, work with active equipment, and performing integration and commissioning activities to maximise benefits of the high speed broadband connection.
  • Fibre Splicer - apprentices will operate and apply optical fibre handling skills to splicing, testing and fault finding on live fibre cable in the fibre distribution network for NBN broadband networks.
  • Technician Hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) - apprentices will be able to apply connection and termination of HFC cabling, diagnosing and rectifying complex HFC system faults, and performing commissioning activities to maximise benefits of the high speed broadband connection.

Telecommunications - Technology ICT30515 Certificate III level apprentices will be assessing installation requirements, planning and performing installations, testing installed equipment and fault finding. It involves a degree of autonomy and may include some supervision of others. Work is performed according to known routines and procedures and there is some accountability for the quality of outcomes. The following specialisations can be achieved through selection of specific units of competency:

  • Optical Networks
  • Wireless Networks
  • Cabling Networks
  • Telecommunications Networking
  • Radio Communications

TRAINEESHIPS

Information Technology - Cyber Security 22334VIC Certificate IV level trainees will gain the skills and knowledge to comprehensively monitor and mitigate the risk of cyber security attacks and breaches. They will develop systems to minimise network vulnerabilities and risks, and implement appropriate software. Trainees in this course will be engaged in a range of commercial enterprises/organisations.

Information Technology - General ICT40118 Certificate IV level trainees will gain the skills and knowledge to competently work in a wide range of general information and communications technologies (ICT) and to support a small to medium enterprise that require broader rather than more specialised ICT support.

Information Technology - Information, Digital Media and Technology ICT20115 Certificate II level trainees learn the foundation skills and knowledge to use information and communications technology (ICT) in any industry.

Information Technology - Information, Digital Media and Technology ICT30118 Certificate III level trainees will gain the skills and knowledge to competently work in a wide range of general information and communications technology (ICT) technical functions and achieve a degree of self-sufficiency as an advanced ICT user. Trainees at this level will support information technology activities in the workplace across a wide range of ICT areas, including technical support, network administration, web technologies, software applications and digital media technologies.

Information Technology - Networking ICT40418 Certificate IV level trainees will gain the skills and knowledge to install and manage small scale networks, either as an independent network support technician or as part of a team.

Information Technology Networking – ICT50418 Diploma level trainees provide the skills and knowledge for an individual to manage, as an independent ICT specialist or as part of a team, the installation of a range of networks, including internetworking, security and e-business integration.

Information Technology - Support ICT40215 Certificate IV level trainees will gain the skills and knowledge to competently support clients in a range of technical areas. This qualification has a strong information technology base of core units with the potential for inclusions for a range of broader industry-specific units in the areas of service desk, database, sustainability and network support to suit particular needs.

Telecommunications - Engineering Technology ICT41215 Certificate IV level trainee will be advanced technicians (technical officers), team leaders or supervisors with a wide range of telecommunications skills who can install and maintain:

  • enterprise networks in emerging and converging technologies
  • optical and wireless equipment for high speed broadband network infrastructure
  • internet protocol (IP) based network telecommunications equipment
  • IP based networks in home networks and small and medium enterprises
  • telecommunications, data cabling and cabling products in line with the specifications of the access network owner
  • telecommunications access network cabling and infrastructure, systems and customer equipment

Trainees will be able to assess installation requirements of converging voice, video and data IP networks, plan and perform installations and test installed equipment and fault find. It may also involve a degree of autonomy and may include limited supervision of others. The following specialisations can be achieved through selection of specific units of competency:

  • Network Engineering
  • Optical Networks
  • Radio Communications.

Telecommunications - Network Build and Operate ICT20215 Certificate II level trainees will gain a pathway entry into work on the National Broadband Network (NBN) and obtain skills and knowledge in a range of NBN industry occupations, specifically for the national rollout of high speed broadband network infrastructure.

For employment as Telecommunications Linesworker trainees must comply with safe working practices and obtain occupational skills in one of three specialist technology streams including Fibre OR Copper OR Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC).

Linesworker are operators who:

  • perform cable and infrastructure work underground, involving safe civil and construction work in site preparation, building of enclosures, installing mounting brackets and hauling of underground cables
  • perform work safely aboveground to install fibre or metallic aerial cable and infrastructure, including installation of aerial lead-in cables to customer premises and providing traffic management.

Telecommunications - Technology ICT20315 Certificate II level trainees a new entrant into the telecommunications industry who can apply a range of competencies within a varied work context from installation to operation of telecommunications equipment and products. Trainees can obtain generic skills or specialise in one of the following areas:

  • Cabling - trainees will be able to install telecommunications equipment, data cabling and cabling products on customer premises.
  • Networking - trainees will obtain specialised skills to operate limited range digital reception equipment for either a customer or an enterprise and they will perform limited fault finding on a range of digital reception equipment for both cable TV and free to air TV reception.
  • Radio Communications - trainees will obtain entry to the industry in a general area of installation of telecommunication radio communications equipment and connection of wireless base stations.
  • Rigging - trainees will obtain entry to the industry in a specialised area of installation of telecommunication equipment on high structures including radio towers or for installation and connection of wireless base stations.
