Aboriginal Communities Water and Sewerage initiative

Overview

The Local Government Aboriginal Communities Water and Sewerage Employment Project was a partnership workforce initiative involving local government, Training Services NSW Aboriginal Services, the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and NSW Aboriginal Affairs.

Aboriginal Communities Water and Sewerage initiative

The Local Government Aboriginal Communities Water and Sewerage Employment Project delivered:

  • increased employment outcomes for Aboriginal communities in the water and sewerage industry with local government
  • created employment and training pathways for Aboriginal job seekers and up-skill existing workers to nationally recognised qualifications that support the operation and maintenance of water and sewerage systems in Aboriginal communities in NSW
  • ensured Aboriginal trainees met the skills requirements of local water utilities
  • assisted Local Councils and Shires to build their capacity to employ Aboriginal people.
