New Careers for Aboriginal People - Good News Story
Daniel gets a second chance thanks to the hard work of the New Careers for Aboriginal People (NCAP) Advisor at Ungooroo in the Hunter region.
The NCAP program assists Aboriginal people to find work. In this case, Daniel was able to get a second chance thanks to the hard work of the New Careers For Aboriginal People (NCAP) Advisor at Ungooroo in the Hunter region.
Daniel moved to the Hunter from Walgett for a better life. "I started to get in a lot of trouble at Walgett with no work and nothing to do. So I moved to Maitland for more employment chances" said Daniel.
That was where Daniel first met up with Darren Wright at the JobLink Plus office in Maitland. Darren is the Aboriginal Employment Advisor for the NCAP program at Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation in Singleton. "Darren assisted me in gaining a position in an accredited training program with clubs NSW and the Barrington Group.
This training provided Daniel with invaluable skills and experience as well as the opportunity to make lots of new friends. "It was the best thing I have done. Michael the trainer was great, and in conjunction with Darren provided me with tremendous support, including ongoing mentoring, that I continue to benefit from" said Daniel.
Daniel is now employed in a job that he loves and the whole experience has changed his life for the better. "I would like to thank everyone who was involved and I would like to see more Aboriginal people working in the club industry" said Daniel.
The NCAP Program is an initiative of the NSW Government and funded through the Department of Industry.
