In this Commissioner's Information Bulletin (CIB) the Transport and Logistics (Maritime) Vocations are designated as Maritime - Apprenticeships and Traineeships.

Five Vocations are deleted as follows:

Apprenticeship Vocations deleted:

  • Transport and Logistics - Maritime Operations (Deck Watchkeeper)

Traineeship Vocations deleted:

MAR50115 Diploma of Maritime Operations (Engineer Watchkeeper) - Apprentices will be working in the maritime industry learning to be an Engineer Watchkeeper on a seagoing ship powered by main propulsion machinery of any propulsion power in any operating area. For certification as an Engineer Watchkeeper by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), additional requirements may be necessary. Please check with AMSA at https://www.amsa.gov.au/.

MAR50313 Diploma of Maritime Operations (Watchkeeper Deck) - Apprentices will be working in the maritime industry learning to be Deck Watchkeeper. For certification as a Watchkeeper (Deck) as described in Marine Orders Part 3: Seagoing Qualifications under the Navigation Act 2012 by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), additional requirements may be necessary. TRAINEESHIPS

MAR20318 Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal) - Trainees will develop the practical skills and knowledge required to work as a coxswain. They will learn to command commercial marine vessels up to 12 metres in length with propulsion power that is unlimited for an outboard engine or up to 500 kW for an inboard engine. The vessel will carry passengers inshore or as a tender or auxiliary vessel within 3 nautical miles (nm) of a parent vessel within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). For certification as a Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal as defined by the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D, additional requirements may be necessary. MAR20418 Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 Near Coastal) - Trainees will be working in the maritime industry learning to be Chief Engineers on vessels with propulsion power up to 500 kW and Second Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 750 kW, in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). For certification as Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 Near Coastal as defined by the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) additional requirements may be necessary. MAR30118 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Steam) -Trainees will be working in the maritime industry learning to be a Chief Engineer on a vessel that has steam as its main method of propulsion with propulsion power up to 750 kW within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). For certification as a Marine Engine Driver (Steam) check with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) as additional requirements may be necessary at https://www.amsa.gov.au/.

MAR30818 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal) - Trainees will be working in the maritime industry learning to be Chief Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 750 kW and Second Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 1500 kW in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ). MAR31018 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Master Inland Waters) - Trainees will work in the maritime industry learning to be Master (Inland Waters) on commercial vessels up to 24 metres in length. MAR30318 Certificate III in Marina Operations is suitable for people working in the marina industry performing a range of tasks such as berthing, mooring and storage of vessels and a range of boatyard tasks connected to sailing, cruising and general boating.

MAR30218 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Integrated Rating) - - Trainees will be working in entry level positions in the maritime industry as a general crew member on a ship, carrying out maintenance and lookout duties on decks and in commercial ship engine rooms. Integrated ratings steer a vessel under the direction of the officer of the watch and work in the engine room under the direction of engineering officers. For certification as an Integrated Rating as described in Marine Orders Part 3: Seagoing Qualifications under the Australian Navigation Act 2012 check with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), additional requirements may be necessary. MAR30215 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Surveying) - Trainees will be assisting marine surveyors or undertaking administration duties in the maritime industry and/or marine surveying sector. For accreditation as a statutory marine surveyor of domestic commercial vessels check with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), additional requirements may be necessary. MAR30415 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Cookery) - Trainees will be carrying out marine cook duties on a ship. MAR40118 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Marine Surveying) - Trainees will be working in the maritime industry as a domestic commercial vessel surveyor assistant. For accreditation as a statutory marine surveyor of domestic commercial vessels by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), additional requirements may be necessary. MAR40218 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Marine Surveying) - - Trainees will be working the maritime industry and will be in charge of the Integrated Ratings on a ship and be responsible for implementing the planned maintenance system and maintaining relevant stores. For certification as a Chief Integrated Rating as described in Marine Orders Part 3: Seagoing Qualifications under the Australian Navigation Act 2012 by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), additional requirements may be necessary. MAR50215 Diploma of Maritime Operations (Marine Surveying) - Trainees will be working in the maritime industry as a domestic commercial vessel marine surveyor. MAR50415 Diploma of Maritime Operations (Master up to 500 GT or Master 80 metres) - Trainees will be working in the maritime industry as a Master, Chief Mate or Watchkeeper Deck on ships of less than 500 gross tonnage (GT) in any operating area, or as Master or Chief Mate of vessels less than 3000 GT operating in near coastal waters. For certification as a Master Class 3 as described in Part D of the National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and as a Master <500 GT as described in Marine Order 3, additional requirements may be necessary.
